2023 Old Buddy Championship

Congratulation to Rich Kehoe and Wayne Richey for winning the Old Buddy Match Play Championship over John McSorley and Bob Bordogna. It was fitting that a tournament started in March went to an extra hole in June to determine the champions.

The Bordogna-McSorley duo went out to an early lead of three up after four holes.  By the 9th their lead narrowed to two-up, then increased to three and went back to two after 15.  Then Rich’s putter got hot and he made pressure putts to win 16, halve 17 and win 18 to send the match to sudden death.  Bob, Rich and Wayne each had a stroke on the 1st. All four competitors reached the green with equal gross strokes. John was away and made a spectacular putt of about 35 feet.  Wayne then sunk a curving 25-footer to win the match.

“It is still unbelievable. Rich and I want to thank everyone who participated. For us, the whole tournament was filled with close matches, serious golf and Quail camaraderie” reports Wayne.
