2025 promises to be another year of great camaraderie and friendly but spirited competition, a trademark of the MGA. We are looking forward to an exciting tournament season kicking off with the first major of the year, “Old Buddy” on March 8th and 9th.
The Quail Invitational (Member-Guest) will be bigger and better than ever. Mark your calendars for June 19th -June 22nd. The 2025 Member-Member, another MGA Major is scheduled for September 20th and 21st. For a calendar of 2025 tournaments, refer to the “Game On” Newsletter for December 2024.
April begins the 8 Man Interclub Matches open to all Quail members. Look for the schedule to come out in March. The NCGA sponsored 12 Man Interclub matches, also open to all Quail members, will begin at the end of May or in early June. This schedule should hit at the end of April or the early part of May.
Annual Dues for 2024 - $225 with checks payable to “The Quail Club”. Checks may be left at the golf desk or mailed to P.O. Box 222396, Carmel CA 93922. To pay by PayPal, send $231.93 (includes the PayPal fee) to QuailclubMGA@gmail.com.
2024 Club Champions
Fifty Quail members competed for the Quail Stroke Play Club Championship on July 13-14. The format was 36 holes of stroke play over two days. There were 4 flights.
Congratulations to Brad Marcus, Donn Wilkerson, Dan Huber and Bob Bordogna, for winning their flights. Brad Marcus captured the Championship Flight and title of Quail Club Champion in a two-hole playoff with Pierre LeMothe.
2024 Most Improved Player
The Most Improved Player is determined by a USGA/NCGA formula: add 12 to the player’s January 1 index (value A), add 12 to the players December 31 index (value B), divide value A by value B, calculating to three decimal points. Forty-eight members indexes in 2023. The top three, who will receive cash awards from the MGA prize fund, are Steve Neil, 16.8 to 11.8, Kodiak Adams, 8.0 to 4.8 and Bob Daw, 11.4 to 8.6.
Support Our Community
The Scholars’ Cup at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club experienced another record-breaking year in 2024. Thanks to your generosity and the support of sponsors from the community, the Cup’s Community Impact Fund grew by almost $220,000.
For the 2023-2024 academic year there were 12 first time recipients and 12 existing scholars who qualified to renew an award for another year or college education. The application process for 2024-2025 academic year is underway.
The Scholars’ Cup originated in 2006 when a long time Quail member, Wayne Sargent, wanted to leave a modest educational legacy. He pledged $1,000 per year for five years to award two annual scholarships. He encouraged his fellow members to compete in an annual golf tournament to raise additional scholarship funds.
2024 Player of the Year
Congratulations to Brad Marcus for an impressive win in the Player of the Year competition. His 406.3 points came from participate in most MGA and club tournaments and high finishes including winning the Match Play title, his flight in the Quail Invitational, second place in the Club Championship and The top 5 for 2024 Player of the Year are:
